The last time the Southside Mavericks played a doubleheader at home, they came away victorious.

Southside opens its 2018 7A-Central home slate today against the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats.

The Lady Charging Wildcats, currently 12-3 overall, fell to 1-1 in the 7A-Central following Tuesday’s 69-64 loss to Conway.

Southside is 1-11 and 0-2, respectively.

Coach Charlie Cooper’s Mavericks open their home slate as well against the athletic Charging Wildcats.

North Little Rock (12-4, 1-1) dropped Tuesday’s game at Conway, 78-74.

Southside is currently 8-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

“North Little Rock’s going to shoot the the ball and they’re going to go get the ball,” Southside coach Charlie Cooper said. “They’re great rebounders, so we’ve got to do our best to keep them off the glass, and that will be a tall task.”

Southside played well for a half last week. And then, after slicing Cabot’s 29-20 lead to two possessions (29-24) early in the third quarter, turnovers and missed shots helped the Panthers stretch their lead to 16.


“I think that’s been our downfall the first two games,” Cooper said. “There’s been that stretch where we tend to push panic button, and (opponents) have been able to stretch a nine-point lead to a 14 or 15-point lead.

“We’ve got to get better at that.”

Southside’s biggest obstacle has been inconsistent scoring. Senior Ike Moore, who they need to hit 3s and get run-outs, had four points in the loss to Cabot. Ollis Brewer and Dillon Hamilton were held to just 10 and nine points.
